Five Winners on One Card Ties the Saratoga Record

On Saturday, August 15, Linda Rice entered six races at Saratoga and won five of them. That matched the Saratoga record for wins by a trainer on one card, which Chad Brown and Todd Pletcher also share. It was her second five-win day of 2026, after one at Aqueduct on January 22.

  • Race 2 · Scramjet: won his debut by 1½ lengths in a New York-bred maiden special weight (Jose Ortiz)
  • Race 4 · Lady Rose: won a state-bred allowance at a mile by five lengths (Jose Lezcano)
  • Race 7 · Bite and Strike: led a Rice-trained exacta, with Vettriano second (Jose Lezcano)
  • Race 11 · Calling Card: dominated a state-bred starter allowance (Manny Franco)
  • Race 12 · Maximum Heat: won the finale easily (Jose Ortiz)

“It’s the toughest place in the world to win a race. When it comes together like today did, it’s very rewarding for me and my staff.”

The barn won only four of its first 45 starts at the meet, then 19 of 77 over the next 16 cards. The five-win day put Rice second in the standings and in the race for a third Saratoga title.
