ELMONT, N.Y. (CBSNewYork)<\/strong> \u2013 The excitement is building for this Saturday\u2019s running of the Belmont Stakes and American Pharoah\u2019s pursuit of the Triple Crown.<\/p>\n

Among those who will be watching is a local woman who has successfully formed her own racing team, including a horse that is this year\u2019s Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner\u2019s half-brother, CBS2\u2019s Tony Aiello reported Thursday.<\/p>\n

From the stage to the stable, former New York City ballerina and professional model Sheila Rosenblum is now at home in the stalls at Belmont Park \u2013 and she finds it just as rewarding.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m passionately adoring of horses,\u201d Rosenblum said.<\/p>\n

Rosenblum now owns 17 horses after forming her own syndicate and hiring one of the nation\u2019s top trainers, Linda Rice. Their stable has won purses totaling nearly $2 million in just the last two years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is \u2018La Verdad,\u2019 this is my superstar,\u201d Rosenblum said, showing CBS2 the 5-year-old filly that has won nearly $1 million alone.<\/p>\n

Rosenblum said her highest hopes rest with a 2-year old she bought for more than $800,000 named \u201cChampion of the Nile.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s got good pedigree. He\u2019s got a heck of a talented American Pharoah sibling,\u201d Rosenblum said.<\/p>\n

Champion of the Nile shares the same father as American Pharoah and Rosenblum hopes to have him competing by next year.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the wins just keep piling up. Earlier Thursday, 4-year old \u201cMighty Zealous\u201d took second place at Belmont as Rosenblum\u2019s staff followed the race on television.<\/p>\n

\u201cI cheer in the office when I\u2019m there at the track. I\u2019m here in the office cheering for them.\u00a0it\u2019s like I\u2019m in the winner\u2019s circle with them,\u201d book keeper Karen Garnett said.<\/p>\n

For Rosenblum, that\u2019s the goal \u2014 to someday stand in the winner\u2019s circle at the Belmont Stakes.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was just challenging. At the beginning I don\u2019t think anyone had faith that\u00a0I would last and I know the good ole\u2019 boys did not, but I\u2019m still here amongst the men,\u201d Rosenblum said.<\/p>\n

Rosenblum said she believes her team and her beloved race horses could help to erase the phrase \u201cmale dominated\u201d from thoroughbred racing.<\/p>\n

Of course, horse racing is a pricey business. To become one of Rosenblum\u2019s partners, you will have to plunk down $100,000, Aiello reported.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n
