The New York-bred average was $80,081. The<br \/>\nsale median was up nearly as much, 45.2% to $45,000 (from\u00a0$31,000). The New York-bred median was $37,000. The\u00a0population of New York-breds at the auction produced 12\u00a0six-fgure horses, six selling for $200,000 and above.<\/p>\n<p>During the frst session of the sale (May 18), a New Yorkbred\u00a0colt by Pioneerof the Nile was purchased for $840,000\u00a0by trainer Linda Rice on behalf of Sheila Rosenblum\u2019s Lady\u00a0Sheila Stable Two syndicate. The price would be the second-\u00a0highest for the sale.<\/p>\n<p>Bred by All Gold Racing and foaled at Four Seasons\u00a0Farm near Bullville, the colt benefted from the timing of\u00a0the Triple Crown bid by Pioneerof the Nile\u2019s most famous<br \/>\noffspring American Pharoah, but he is a standout individual\u00a0in his own right. The colt generated considerable presale\u00a0buzz after working a quarter-mile in :212\u20445 during the<br \/>\nunder tack show. He is also fattered by his pedigree page.\u00a0Out of Lantern Glow, an unraced daughter of Mineshaft,\u00a0he is a half brother to last year\u2019s Remsen Stakes (gr. II)<br \/>\nwinner Leave the Light On (by Horse Greeley) and to the\u00a0stakes-winning Harlan\u2019s Pure (by Harlan\u2019s Holiday).\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s a great time to have a Pioneerof the Nile, especially<br \/>\none with a pedigree like his that worked like he did,\u201d said\u00a0consignor Nick de Meric prior to the sale.\u00a0De Meric purchased the colt for $150,000 at last year\u2019s\u00a0Keeneland September yearling sale; as a weanling, the\u00a0youngster had brought $135,000 at the Keeneland November\u00a0sale.<\/p>\n<p>Rosenblum, whose partnership also includes Rice and\u00a0Iris Smith, was the driving force behind landing the colt.\u00a0Said Rice, \u201cSheila really wanted this one. Every time I went<br \/>\nto stop, Sheila said to keep going. When I shook my head\u00a0no, she said one more bid.\u201d\u00a0\u201cLet\u2019s pray that little bit more pays off one day, hopefully,\u201d\u00a0Rosenblum said. The second top-selling state-bred was Hip 400, a colt by\u00a0Bluegrass Cat out of Unbridled Melody, who went to Jacob\u00a0L. West, agent, from the consignment of Raul Reyes\u2019 Kings<br \/>\nEquine, agent, for $450,000 after breezing a co-bullet :10\u00a0fat for an eighth of a mile.<\/p>\n<p>Bred by WinStar Farm and foaled at Vinery New York\u00a0at Sugar Maple near Poughquag, the colt is a full brother\u00a0to stakes winner and graded stakes-placed Michael With<br \/>\nUs and a half brother to stakes winner and grade I-placed\u00a0Tourist (by Tiznow). Bluegrass Cat, a former leading New\u00a0York sire, stood at Vinery New York at Sugar Maple in<br \/>\n2012 and 2013 and at Rockridge Stud in 2014 before relocating\u00a0to California.<\/p>\n<p>Purchased by Reyes for $90,000 at last year\u2019s Fasig-Tipton\u00a0Kentucky October sale, the colt RNA\u2019d in March for\u00a0$160,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Florida sale. Before the Midlantic\u00a0auction Reyes said, \u201cHe has changed quite a bit since\u00a0the Florida sale. He looks a lot better now. He looked dull\u00a0in Miami. I think he didn\u2019t like the heat.
